V.III. Bro Richard Legge
Before anything else, Richard is a servant of the District and someone who has spent years supporting Lodges, Chapters and individual brethren with patience, clarity and genuine warmth. His appointment as Inspector General reflects not status, but a natural continuation of the steady, supportive roles he has carried throughout his Masonic journey.

About me
Within the District of Wiltshire, many of us have come to know Richard Legge as a steady, thoughtful and quietly committed Mason, someone who gives his time generously and brings people together with ease. His path to becoming Inspector General reflects a lifetime of service, both inside and outside masonry, shaped by professionalism, humility and a genuine interest in the wellbeing of others.

Richard grew up in Swindon as one of four brothers and began his working life in healthcare, qualifying as a Diagnostic Radiographer in 1985. His early career took him to the Royal Berkshire, Battle Hospital and later the John Radcliffe in Oxford, where he specialised in CT and angiocardiography and eventually managed the angiography laboratories. These roles demanded clarity under pressure, attention to detail and the ability to support people at difficult moments, qualities that have stayed with him throughout his life.
A move into the pharmaceutical and medical-devices industries led Richard into training, coaching and leadership development. What started as a new direction soon became a genuine passion. Over the years he held senior roles in training, business leadership and organisational development, completing an Executive MBA at the University of Bath along the way. Today he serves as Global Leadership Development Director for Convatec, working with senior leaders and high-potential teams across an international organisation. His work is rooted in developing people, listening carefully, and helping others reach their potential, skills that sit naturally alongside the ethos of the Ancient & Accepted Rite.
Richard & his wife, Shirley
Richard and his wife, Shirley, have been married for 39 years. They live just outside Swindon and have two children, Bryony and Dominic, as well as a grandson, Parker. Their home is shared with a lively sprocker spaniel called Jenson and two elderly cats. Gardening, road cycling, clay pigeon shooting and exploring the countryside in their motorhome fill much of their spare time, offering a welcome balance to demanding professional roles.

Masonic Life and Service
Richard is an active member of Royal Sussex Lodge of Emulation No. 355, Lodge of Concord No. 632 and Windrush Lodge No. 1705, and in the Royal Arch he belongs to Highworth Chapter No. 9009 where he has previously served as MEZ and now acts as DC, alongside Templars Chapter No. 8703 and Kingswood Chapter No. 9681. Within the Rose Croix, he continues his journey as a member of both Sarum Chapter Rose Croix No. 114 and William De Warenne Chapter Rose Croix No. 861. His wider service to the Province includes working within the Membership and Learning & Development teams, supporting the Wiltshire Masonic Cycle Ride and holding several acting Provincial appointments in both Craft and Royal Arch.
Inspector General for Wiltshire
Richard took up the role of Inspector General for the District of Wiltshire on 19 February 2026, succeeding V. Ill. Bro. Francis Wakem BEM QPM 33°. Those who know him will recognise how naturally his skills transfer into this new responsibility.

His career in leadership development gives him an instinctive ability to support and encourage others. His background in healthcare has shaped a calm, measured approach. His work across multiple Lodges and Chapters has given him a broad understanding of the District and the people within it. And perhaps most importantly, he leads in a way that feels inclusive and grounded, focusing on collaboration, shared purpose and helping individuals grow in the Rite at a pace and depth that is right for them.

Richard approaches his role not as a position of authority, but as a chance to serve the District, strengthen our Chapters and support the spiritual and personal journeys of every member. His hope is to help create an environment where brethren feel welcome, supported and inspired to explore the deeper meanings of the Rose Croix.
